What is Footage Request?
Device Footage Requests is a GroundCloud feature that lets you search for, view, and export VEDR footage from your fleet.
It replaces the previous date/time-only request process with a location-first workflow, so you can find the footage you need faster, even if you don't know exactly when an incident occurred.
Who Is This For?
CSP managers and administrators who need to retrieve VEDR footage in response to:
FedEx delivery complaints (missed delivery, property damage)
Driver-reported incidents (vehicle damage, property damage)
Vehicle break-ins or after-hours incidents
How to Use Device Footage Requests
Step 1 - Search for a Route
Navigate to Footage Requests in the left sidebar.
Click on + Request Footage.
Use the Search Routes panel to find relevant trips.
-
In the Search In dropdown, choose your search type:
Addresses: Search by a delivery address or street
Consignee Name: Search by recipient name
Tracking ID: Search by package tracking number
Enter your search term and click Search.
Optionally use the Driver, VEDR Device, and Vehicle filters to narrow results.
Tip: You do not need to know which driver was involved or the exact date. Searching by address is often enough to locate the right trip.
Step 2 - Review Results and Select a Trip
The Routes table lists all matching trips, showing:
Column |
Description |
|---|---|
Date |
The date of the trip |
Name |
Route identifier |
Driver |
Driver assigned to the route |
Vehicle |
Vehicle used |
VEDR Device |
Camera device ID |
Analyze Footage |
Opens the footage analysis view |
Click on any row to preview the driver's path on the map to the right. Once you've identified the correct trip, click the camera icon in the Analyze Footage column.
Step 3 - Analyze Footage
The Footage Analysis page shows:
A full-screen map with the driver's traveled path for the selected day
-
A timeline bar at the bottom showing the full period for which footage is available
Green segments: Footage is available for that time window
Grey segments: No footage available
A floating video player that appears when you select a point on the timeline
To find footage around a specific location:
Click or drag along the route path on the map, or
Click on a time segment in the timeline bar
Both controls are synced - selecting one will automatically update the other.
To play footage:
Click a green segment in the timeline to jump to that time
Use the playback controls (rewind, play, fast-forward) in the video player
Tip: If you're investigating an overnight incident (e.g., a vehicle break-in) and don't know the time, scan the green segments in the late-night/early-morning hours of the timeline to quickly find when footage is available. No need to submit multiple requests.
Step 4 - Export a Clip
Once you've found the relevant footage:
Click Export Clip in the video player.
-
The export panel will appear below the timeline with:
Start Time: pre-filled to your current position
Duration: defaults to 25 seconds (adjustable in mm:ss)
A preview of the exact clip range (e.g., Clip: 8:21 AM to 8:31 AM)
Click Request Clip Export to submit the export.
Click Exit Export Mode to return to playback without exporting.
Export History
The Export History shows all previously requested exports, including:
Clips that have been processed and are ready for download
Clips that could not be fulfilled (e.g., footage no longer available)
The ability to re-download a previously exported clip
Frequently Asked Questions
I know the address but not the driver or date. Can I still search?
Yes. Enter the address in the search bar and leave Driver/Vehicle/VEDR Device set to "All." Results will show every trip that passed through that area in the selected date range.
The timeline shows grey for the time I need. What does that mean?
Grey indicates no footage is stored for that window. This can happen if the camera was offline, the vehicle was not moving, or the footage has aged past the retention period.
Why is my exported clip only 25 seconds by default?
The default is set to keep file sizes compatible with FedEx's 25 MB email limit. You can increase the duration in the export panel if needed.
Can I go back further than 30 days?
The maximum lookback period is 30 days.
What's the difference between the map path and the timeline?
They represent the same data in two ways: location vs. time. Clicking either one will sync the other to the same moment in the trip.
