VEDR - Device Wi-Fi

To reduce network interference inside terminals, device Wi-Fi is "off" by default. Users can manually enable it when needed for installation, troubleshooting or support.

You may need to turn on the device’s Wi-Fi when performing tasks that require a direct connection to the camera, such as installation, troubleshooting, retrieving logs or working with GroundCloud Support. When Wi-Fi is enabled, your phone or tablet can connect to the device via the Waylens Fleet App, where you can view settings, run diagnostics and upload logs.

Note: The Wi-Fi behavior described below requires minimum firmware versions of AIR-II 3.35.910 and 4K 3.32.1251. Devices on earlier versions may show different prompts or may not support this experience.

How to Manually Enable or Disable Wi-Fi

Use the orange Magic button to turn Wi-Fi on or off. Refer to the Installation Guide for your camera model to find the orange Magic button.

To enable Wi-Fi:

  1. Short-press the Magic button three times in a row.

  2. Each set of three presses cycles through these Wi-Fi modes:

    • AP Mode (Access Point / Hotspot)

    • P2P / Direct-WiFi Mode

    • OFF

The modes cycle in this order: AP → P2P → OFF → AP.

Wi-Fi stays on until you turn it off using the same three-press process.

Tip: If you turn Wi-Fi on, remember to turn it off when you are finished. Why this matters: Prevents VEDR devices from disrupting terminal Wi-Fi networks.

Audible Prompts When Cycling Wi-Fi Modes

When you quickly press the orange Magic button three times to cycle Wi-Fi modes, the camera will announce the current mode aloud. Use the table below to know what each audible prompt means for AIR-II and 4K cameras.

Camera Model

Mode

AIR-II

P2P (Direct-WiFi)

Understanding AP vs. P2P (Direct-WiFi) Modes

Most users will only ever need AP Mode, but both modes are available.

AP Mode (Access Point / Hotspot)

  • This is the camera's default Wi-Fi mode.

  • The device broadcasts its own Wi-Fi network (SSID).

  • Users connect a phone or tablet directly to the camera’s Wi-Fi network for:

    • Setup

    • Configuration

    • Support or log retrieval

P2P / Direct-WiFi Mode

  • Designed primarily for Android users.

  • Some Android phones cannot maintain a cellular data connection while connected to a traditional Wi-Fi network. This can prevent logs and diagnostics from uploading during troubleshooting.

  • P2P / Direct-WiFi mode allows the phone to:

    • Connect directly to the camera, and

    • Continue using its 4G/5G data connection to access the internet

  • This enables:

    • Remote debugging

    • Log uploads

    • Other support actions without losing data connectivity
